The Tata Group brings back the highly successful quiz The 6th Edition of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz is ready to engage Singapore's youth

Singapore, October 19, 2012 – Tata Group, one of the largest Indian business houses, is bringing the 6th Edition of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz to Singapore on Tuesday, 30th October, 2012. The quiz will be held at Rock Auditorium 3 Temasek Boulevard, Suntec City Mall. Mr. Sunny Verghese, Group Managing Director/CEO, Olam International and Chairman, IE Singapore will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, is a key knowledge initiative for the youth by the Tata Group. It strives to bring together the sharpest young minds to take on the heat of intense quizzing on business knowledge and out of the box thinking. It made its global debut in Singapore in 2007, followed by London a year later.

Participants can look forward to an exciting and dynamic business quiz, which will test their knowledge in multiple visual and audio-visual rounds of questions. The quiz will cover a wide range of subjects from the world of business and economy, including business houses, personalities, brands, markets among other exciting topics, The quiz will be conducted by the experienced quiz master, Mr Giri Balasubramaniam – popularly known as 'Pickbrain’– known for his wit, humour and sharp style of quizzing.

Announcing the new season of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz in Singapore, Mr. Vish Iyer, President - Asia Pacific, Tata Consultancy Services, said, “We are delighted with the phenomenal response the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has received in Singapore over the past five years. Crucible has truly set a benchmark in both the Indian and international quizzing circuits and is now a recognized and highly anticipated event here. I am certain that this year’s quiz will once again provide a fantastic quizzing experience and infotainment for Singapore’s student community.”

The quiz is open to all college student teams above the age of 18. The top eight scoring teams will be chosen from a preliminary written round and a quick wild card round (teams comprise two participants each from the same college/university). These eight teams will then battle it out on stage for the grand prize. The winning teams will together take home cash prizes of S$12,000*. The distribution of the cash prizes is as follows:

  • Winning team: A cash prize of S$7,000*
  • First runner-up team: A cash prize of S$3,000*
  • Second runner-up team: A cash prize of S$2,000*

Besides the cash prize, there is a wide array of attractive giveaways* like digicams/ipods and Tata Crucible merchandise for the finalists and attractive prizes for the audience. The 2011 edition saw strong participation from campuses across the city-state, including NUS, SMU, NTU, SIM, S P Jain Center of Management and others, with SMU taking the top place.

Tata companies have significant business interests in Singapore, as well as a strong track record in collaboration with the local tertiary institutions. These initiatives underscore the Group’s commitment to Singapore’s push towards life-long learning, and to partnering the Singapore Government in promoting educational excellence.

The last five editions of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz-Singapore saw nearly 130-140 teams of two students participating each year. ABOUT TATA CRUCIBLE
Tata Crucible seeks to bring together the sharpest young minds to take on the heat of a challenging business quiz. The Quiz made its debut in India in 2004 and successfully generated a huge response in the very first year itself. It has since become an annual event.

The Quiz is a part of the Tata Group's engagement with the youth as a knowledge initiative to encourage lateral associations, speed of thought and out-of-the-box thinking as key aims.

The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz made its international debut with the Singapore edition in 2007. It offers Singapore's student community a unique opportunity to involve themselves with the subject of international business, in an engaging and intellectually stimulating manner. The 2011 edition saw strong participation from campuses across the city-state, including NUS, SMU, NTU, SIM, S P Jain Center of Management and others, with SMU taking the top place. The UK edition was launched successfully in 2008 and the 4th edition saw the participation of over 20 leading UK universities. Since 2009 to broaden the scope of the event, the concept of the grand International Final was conceived as a face-off between the top two teams from Singapore, UK and India, which is held in June quarter each year.
