If there is one man Ranchi believes can bring back a game to life in the final overs, it has to be Dhoni. True to that belief was the Crucible edition of the quiz here which witnessed an amazing comeback by Rourkela Steel, represented by SS Panda and Sampad Mishra, to book a place in the national final.
It also reflected the passion with which teams come prepared for a Tata Crucible these days, as the 2012 edition got underway. After an eclectic prelim testing the participants on the various aspects of business, we had the following teams making it to the final:
The final started with SAIL and a young team from ITC Patna taking quick strides forward while the other finalists adapted to the pressure quickly. There was lots of excitement from the early rounds with teams working towards the right segment or sector of the business though missing out the eventual answer.
With the onslaught of the buzzer rounds Rourkela Steel (SS Panda and Sampad Mishra) seemed to pull back a little along with Bokaro Steel. SAIL were still in the lead and ITC behind them but a few good strikes in the lateral thinking round got the Rourkela team into the reckoning.
The final round was a nervous one with Rourkela taking the lead with further strikes. ITC then tried to push their way and missed out while on the final question with 5 points separating SAIL from Rourkela, the former took the plunge but took a negative to finish runner up while Rourkela Steel got through as champions.
Mr. Rezi Dungdung the Additional DG of Police, Govt. of Jharkhand was the guest of honour.
