Chandigarh, Sep 11, 2008: Tension coupled with brilliance seemed to be the theme for the Chandigarh edition of Tata Crucible 08. After the prelim six top teams were selected by quizmaster Pickbrain for the final.

There were several new teams that took part this year and the stage seemed set for five new finalists to take on the defending champions from Ludhiana, Abhishek Industries.

The quiz moved slowly in the first couple of rounds with teams exercising caution. After the third round of the quiz it seemed to move into a three way battle with Abhishek Industries in the lead, followed by Siemens and Mudra. In the lateral thinking rounds, the duo of Rahul Gupta and Pankaj Joshi from Abhishek Industries set the tone with some amazing answers. Both Mudra and Siemens followed it with a set of stunning replies.

With one round remaining the Abhishek Industries were ahead, and Pickbrain aptly quipped, ‘we are just one round away in this quiz, but the battle seems far from over’. Akashneel and Sohel Bohra from Mudra were truly brilliant on the buzzers and with one question remaining the scores read – Abhishek Industries 50, Mudra 40 and Siemens 30. Mudra went for the final question on the buzzer and cracked it on the first clue (worth 15 points) to get past the defending champions by a margin of just 5 points.
