The eastern cluster is often one of the most demanding terrains in Indian quizzing. The round was no different this year with a line-up of very good challengers and the defending champion, all in the fray.
The quiz was not dominated by anyone. It was a very difficult set of questions for the contestants to navigate. It prompted quizmaster Pickbrain to quip, ‘Did I preserve my best set of questions for this region?’ The early rounds did not throw up any clear leader though Jyotish was in the lead and did not do anything to undo his position in the subsequent rounds. The former champion Rabi put up a fantastic fight, but it was too little too late to win another title. Samanway who played a steady and consistent game finished runner-up, while Jyotish from Assam took the title with some craft quizzing.
Mr. Peeyush Gupta, the chief guest for the region, chairs the board of Tata Steel (Thailand) and is Vice President for Supply Chain, spoke of how the year of the pandemic had been a huge year for learning new ways to approach not just problems, but also life. He appreciated the contestants for their knowledge and wished them well. He wished for the quiz to be back in Jamshedpur soon.
