Quizzing at Manipal is huge, especially when it is a Tata Crucible. Teams from here have often gone all the way to the national final, underlining the quality of teams that participate from here. The prelim was a shade tougher than most cities and the teams that made it were:

Finalists

  • NITK Suratkal :Harshith Kumar and Rajesh Rao
  • Kasturba Medical College :Avinash Rao and Xerxes Rahman
  • MIT :Varun Tiwari and Ayush Malviya
  • TAPMI :Gaurav Anand and Sahitya Kumar
  • NITK Suratkal :Joe Antony and Tanay Shah
  • School of Communication :Arjun Shriyan and Aayushmaan Sharma

The finale was absolutely riveting, with School of Communication, the teams from NITK, MIT and TAPMI all firing at regular intervals. The aspiring doctors from KMC also did well in bursts but could not build on those bursts to create significant momentum.

With five teams in the fray right through the final, the quiz was lively, tense and keenly contested. Towards the end stages, TAPMI faltered just once and that slip-up proved costly in a tight contest as they missed out on the top two slots. The NIT duo of Joe and Tanay did their best to try and get past the team from School of Communication, Manipal but fell short on the final question.

School of Communication, on their part, did very well early on and maintained the same tempo across the middle stages. Once they had a decent lead, they hedged and waited for the teams to try and chase them down. The strategy worked and resulted in the college winning their first ever Tata Crucible title.

The guest of honour Prof.Madhu Veeraraghav, Director TAPMI, spoke of how learning platforms have evolved and how as an institute they always look to partner and patronise a Tata Crucible in the region. He welcomed and appreciated the Tata effort.
