The western zonal featured eight champions who are all capable of being national champions commented Pickbrain before he got underway hosting the quiz.
It was a nervous final with BITS Pilani from Goa making early inroads. NLIU Bhopal a first-time city for the quiz, as Bhopal and Trivandrum were the new additions in the 40-city journey, too scored and got to the 10-run mark with BITS.
Nirma Univ., Sayaji Univ., and SJMSOM all started late but made steady progress. The SJMSOM duo were good with their answers but played most of them at just a run thereby not maximising their values. It was a decision that hurt them badly towards the end as they tied with NLIU for the second spot, which the latter won.
The BITS team made one big mistake and took a minus 6 which forced them to play another at 5 which went wrong as well and that put them in a point of no return despite having led the quiz for the most part. At the same time in the final over, Sayaji University, Baroda played a big six to get past the rest and then stayed calm to play out the match, winning by a slender margin, but more importantly finding a place in the national final.
The guest of honour was the General Manager of Taj Vivanta (President), Ms. Ashrafi Matcheswala who congratulated all the teams and awarded them their prizes.
