IIM Calcutta sweep in style
The state of West Bengal has always been one of the best states for quizzing in India. The penchant for knowledge and the sheer love for the sport of quizzing has made this cluster a very competitive and high profile one over the years. Ms. Rashmi Furtado came prepared very differently for this cluster. Her questions for the wildcards looked like finale questions, as she set a tight framework around the contestants. She also appeared a lot stricter than her normal friendly self, perhaps given the profile of the cluster. She went about her task swiftly, identifying the following six finalists.

Cluster Finalists Were
  • Piyush Kedia - IIT Kharagpur
  • Aman Gupta - IIM Calcutta
  • Meera Sastry - IIFT Kolkata
  • Mayank Pawar - IIM Calcutta
  • Varad Vyapari - IIM Calcutta
  • Harikrishnan - IIM Calcutta
The finale was a thriller, as the young lad from Kharagpur and Meera, the lone lady in the fray, got off to early starts and the latter leading the bunch into the second round. Aman played very well in the middle phase to catch up with Meera. It was however, a burst of brilliant answers that came from Varad that took him into the lead, but the battle looked wide open with three contestants on the same score and everyone having a fair chance to win the quiz in the final round.

The final round of the quiz saw Aman drawing closer to Varad, but the latter came up with another brilliant strike to close the quiz and move into the top 24 of India. Aman finished a very worthy runner up as the two IIM lads made a clean sweep for their institute. The chief guest Sourav Ghosal, General Manager, Vivanta Kolkata EM Bypass, who has been a witness to many Tata Crucible shows, spoke to the young contestants on the importance of innovation and cited some examples from the Taj on how they had responded to the pandemic. He wished them to do well in the rounds ahead and their careers.
