CHENNAI: Intense concentration, quick moves and a lot of brain power. Plenty of drama unfolded on stage as the 12 finalists fought it out to win the regional round of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz here on Saturday.
In the fourth edition of this business quiz, more than 200 teams from across the State battled it out for a place in the final. But as the sun began to set, the six best teams of the day made it to the final.
As quiz master Giri Balasubramaniam fired his questions, the teams resorted to everything from ‘attitude’ to humour and even quick prayers directed at the heavens. The tension was evident. The fight was really between three teams including – The College of Engineering Chennai, Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchi, and Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Chennai . In the end, it went down to a tie-breaker between the two from the College of Engineering and the SVCE. The two from College of Engineering emerged on top.
Securing a place in the national final in Mumbai to be held later this month and a bag of goodies, including a cheque for Rs.60,000, K. Kalai Selvam and S. Srivatsan were ecstatic. “It feels absolutely great. All the hard work paid off,” chorused the two mechanical engineering students. For runners up L. Ramkumar and V. Siddharth it was indeed tough luck. “We could have done better, but I guess someone has to lose at the end of the day,” said Ramkumar. They did not, however, walk away empty handed. They were presented with their own bag of goodies and a cheque for Rs.30,000.
Mr. Balasubramaniam said this year, the number of participants was much higher.
