“It’s a small city in terms of turnout, it’s a big city in terms of the winner” observed quizmaster Pickbrain as he started the proceedings. Elaborating further, he said while Ranchi was not one of those 100 team cities, the winner has always posed a problem or two to major teams in the nationals to finish runner up as well in the past.
With his witty remarks Pickbrain kept going and one did not feel the prelim breeze past and soon we were in the grip of a final.
FINALISTS
The final was a tense battle with two former champion teams both from Rourkela on stage with all the others challenging them. In the initial phase of the quiz everything was tentative as teams perhaps feared the negatives in a very dynamic format.
The quiz moved quickly as both the right and wrong answers added to the excitement and unpredictable nature of the final. It came down to three teams two from Bokaro Steel with S.W.Kispotta and Anand Raj and Debabrata Chowdhury and Rajiv Gautam and the duo from Rourkela with Debajit Rabha and Ravi Banjare in the hunt as the quiz inched towards the final few questions.
With two questions to go the two Bokaro teams were locked on the same score and a negative on the next by Debabrata Chowdhury and Rajiv Gautam ensured S.W.Kispotta and Anand Raj would go through to the Eastern Zonals.
Irrespective of which team won it was a big day for the Steel companies as all the six on stage were from the industry while it was a very special double for Bokaro Steel which won their maiden Tata Crucible title.
The guest of honour Mr.Kamal Kishore Son (IAS) Secretary, Department of Transport, Government of Jharkhand gave away the prizes in the presence of Mr.Satish Singh, CRE, Tata Steel Ranchi.
